Notary public, commissioner and name changes in Guelph

Need a notary public or commissioner in Guelph? Documents are sworn, declared, certified or notarized at our office on Woolwich Street, and we help with legal name changes too. Please book ahead, and bring government photo ID.

What we can do

Commissioner of oaths

We take your oath, affirmation or declaration on documents like affidavits, statutory declarations, loan and insurance forms, ODSP and Ontario Works forms, and pension papers.

Notary public

We act as an impartial witness: we check your identity, witness your signature and certify that a copy is a true copy of the original, including on documents going outside Ontario.

Legal name changes

We help you prepare your application to change your name legally in Ontario, which goes to ServiceOntario.

By appointment

We're open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please ask for a time before you come in, so we're ready for you.

Questions people ask

Do I need a commissioner or a notary?

A commissioner of oaths can take your oath or declaration on a document for use in Ontario. A notary public can do that too, and can also certify copies and notarize signatures, including for documents going outside Ontario. If you were asked for a notarized document, you need a notary.

Should I sign the document before I come?

No. Bring it unsigned. You'll sign in front of us after we've checked your ID.

Can you draft my will or power of attorney?

No. Drafting wills and powers of attorney is work for a lawyer.

What's it about?

Sending this form doesn't make us your paralegal, and it doesn't stop us from acting for someone else in the same matter. Please don't include confidential details or documents until we've met and you've hired us. Anything you send before then may have to be disclosed if the law requires it.
